In exploring our contemporary landscape, we delve into the stratified relationship between the individual and their surroundings, emphasizing the profound impact that the habitat – both physical and digital – has on the construction of identity. Very) Neural System is an ongoing investigation into this intricate realm, which reflects upon the interplay between the individual and this numeric ecosystem.
At the core of the project is an interactive installation featuring a digital avatar, meticulously crafted to mirror the artist’s persona— an amalgamation of seemingly authentic features, responses, voice, and cognitive patterns derived from data collected by major companies. Motion sensors and reactive dialogues encourage the audience to interact with this doppelgänger, crossing the boundary between physical reality and virtual existence. Additional visual elements provide transparency into the black box of this dystopian simulacrum, revealing the underlying code and mechanisms. In doing so, the work demystifies the concept of general AI and emphasizes its foundation in basic algorithmic processes.
The artwork was produced during the Critical Data course held by Manuela Naveau, Interface Cultures department, Kunstuniversität Linz, Austria.
The first prototype was exhibited in the “Datamorphosis” exhibition within the Elektron festival, part of the Esch Capital of Culture Architecture Biennale programme (11 May – 28 September 2024), at Bridderhaus, Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg.
The artwork is also going to be showcased in the campus section of the Interface Cultures department during Ars Elecontrica 2024 (4 – 8 September), Linz, Austria.
