Sensing Nicosia
DESCRIPTION

Sensing Nicosia is an interdisciplinary workshop bringing together researchers, designers, practitioners, and community members to explore innovative ways of experiencing and documenting the sensory dimensions of public spaces in Nicosia’s historic center. Moving beyond traditional visual-based approaches, the workshop integrates sound, smell, taste, and touch, advocating for a holistic perspective that celebrates the rich sensory diversity of human cultures.

The aim is to inspire a shift in how we interpret our surroundings by engaging the full sensory spectrum, especially within historical urban contexts abundant with stimuli. By fostering multi-sensory, embodied interactions with public spaces, the workshop acknowledges that cities are not just physical locations but are experienced through complex sensory interactions that evoke emotional responses. Furthermore, the workshop will explore innovative methods to document these sensory experiences using technology.
